Project Two

Empowering Marginalized Youth

  • Project Duration: One year, from October 1, 2018, to September 30, 2019
  • Target Area: Douar Hicher District, Manouba Governorate, Tunisia
  • Target Group: Youth aged 18 to 35 years old

1. Project Background:

The Maghreb Institute for Sustainable Development (IMDED) works to combat the influence of violent extremist groups in the Douar Hicher district by mobilizing efforts to promote youth participation in peaceful struggle for the consolidation of democracy.

Douar Hicher is a marginalized area that suffers from serious economic and social problems, including high unemployment rates, low youth participation in the political process, and a lack of infrastructure.

2. Project Objectives:

  • Empower local youth leaders in Douar Hicher District and enhance their role in peaceful social and political activism.
  • Build the capacity of local non-governmental organizations in Hicher District by training them in project design and good financial management.
  • Organize a series of dialogue cafés for young people to promote interaction and discussion on local issues and combat extremism.
  • Enhance awareness among youth in the area about democratic principles, the Tunisian constitution, and shared values between Islam and democracy.

Through achieving these objectives, we aim to create positive change in the local community and reduce the ability of terrorist groups to recruit individuals.
