As part of the “Empowering Marginalized Youth” project in Douar Hicher District, the Maghreb Institute for Sustainable Development (IMDED) organized workshops to build the capacity of young leaders and local civil society organizations operating in the area. The goal was to counter the influence and recruitment of violent extremist and terrorist groups targeting marginalized youth in this area, which suffers from high unemployment rates and the highest rate of political apathy. Notably, many young people from this region have joined terrorist groups in Libya, Syria, and Mount Chaambi in Kasserine Governorate, Tunisia.
